2014 ~ 22nd Annual GTHC Open Hunt

Well our 22nd annual open hunt has come and gone.  All the planning and preparation helped us have a great event this year.  It went off without a hitch.  There were some changes made from the previous year, we added a lot more prizes, seeded with more fun tokens, contacted a bunch of people and places for donations.  We received a lot of great prizes, bought a lot of great prizes, and had a lot of fun planning and executing the event.

The Hunt Committee met many times during the last couple months leading up to the hunt.  Deciding who to contact, what to purchase, and trying to keep within budget was a fun task.  We spent many nights at the Dunkin Donuts at the Sagamore Bridge rotary planning for our big day.  There were a few times when the staff told us they were closing up the inside and that we would need to think about heading out.  How’s it go?  You don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here…

We had help from club members contacting companies, people, and vendors.  Big Kudos go out to club member Mark Parrish, Mark was instrumental with getting in contact with Tesoro out in Arizona, who we purchased a detector from, and received a bunch of prizes  to plant tokens for,  the guys from the National Geographic Channel TV show Diggers sent us some cool tokens which we planted and used for prizes, some wearables, and autographed items.  Mark also asked  GPAA, who made a donation of wearables.  Tom Smith, our Huntmaster contacted who donated gift certificates that became token prizes.  Kent Blethen, our Vice President, contacted Gary Drayton who sent us 3 of his books which he autographed! Kent did a lot of running around as did our President, Brian Rountree, without all their efforts the hunt would not have been the event that it was!  Jenn Nicholas contacted  Detect America  who sent us a box full of items from water bottles to hats to shirts and pouches.  Roy Gouge our Treasurer contacted Outdoor Outfitters, a metal detecting gear distributor,  who sent us a nice variety of prizes from detectors to hats and shirts.  Western Eastern Magazine sent us  two boxes chock full of magazines to pass out.  We handed them out at registration.  Tony Brogna of White’s came and set up a display, he answered questions people had about gear and showed people new items.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you to all who helped out at the event.  Many to list, forgive me if I leave anyone out.  Members: Rick B, Bob St. O, Bill L, Harry K, Joe Q, Paul C, and Sandi G.  Non-Member: Stephen M.  Steve “Zak” Zakszewski helped contact the food vendor, set up and seeded the fields.  Karin Smith, GTHC member for taking so many great photos, as well as Leighton Harrington of Under The Radar for sharing his photos.
